In reading a little bit about the 7th studio album from Greensky Bluegrass, I discovered a new word... “jamgrass”. Jamgrass seems to allude to the new-wave of bluegrass bands who play via Grateful Dead-like length jam sessions and improvisational furry. Bluegrass artists who fade into psychedelic distortions of their guitars. A move probably once thought to be faux pas in many bluegrass circles, now seems to be celebrated, championed by artists like of Billy Strings.
Stress Dreams, despite it’s short 4-song length, takes the listener along winding curves on each of it’s feature-length songs. Building and slowly descending and building back up again via mandolin, banjo, upright bass and vocals... jaming in the grass all the way!
