Using his unique personality, Frank Ocean weaves through intricate stories, both real and metaphorical. channel ORANGE is a mix of styles that Ocean is able to weave together magically. His versatility is on display, hitting beautiful falsettos on “Thinking about You”, then moving to a funk/EDM inspired story on “Pyramids”. The drums on “Monk” are unexpected for this genre, but in combination with the baseline, give an urgency to the tune. The majority of this record, however, is the smooth R&B/pop fusion that has made Ocean a household name.
