Every track on “Love, Death, and Dancing” is a journey with builds, breaks, and nuances. The depth and complexity of Jack Garratt’s songwriting and production take you to another level of auditory sensation. He can build up to epic horn proclamations with gospel-esque repetitions or hit you with bone-vibrating staccatos (like on “Anyone”). So much effort and time went into this masterpiece, which is evident in the fact that Garratt took four years to release his sophomore follow-up album. With this release, he cements himself as one of the most talented artists of the recent few years. If possible, take the time to listen loudly, and preferably with surround sound.
