Ernest Greene, the man behind the pop/electronica project, Washed Out, tells Apple Music, “I was really influenced by a lot of older recordings and I wanted my records to have a slightly warmer sound that might sound slightly vintage. With this one, it was very much just trying to sound as bright and as powerful as possible.” The result, Purple Noon, is an incredibly euphoric and mesmerizing mix of dream pop. He sings from the heart, outlining his hurt on “Time to Walk Away” due to the natural growing apart of a relationship. It continues on “Reckless Desires”, as he is having a hard time grasping the lies and deceit of his partner, singing, “Everytime I turn my back, you find yourself in someone else’s bed.” Through this heartbreak, he is able to create something beautiful, the euphoric melodies present on Purple Noon.
